Introduction
TargetTally helps shooting clubs run contests from start to finish: register competitors, print QR stickers, enter scores by scanning scorecards or by hand, publish rankings, and show a live TV scoreboard with announcements and photo slideshows.
The app runs on a local server (usually a Raspberry Pi on your club network). Open it in any web browser on a phone, tablet, or PC. Use HTTPS so the camera works for scorecard scanning.
The interface is available in English, Dutch, German, French, and Spanish (flag icon top-right).
Quick start
A typical match day:
- Create a contest (name, date, optional location).
- Add disciplines (number of shots, max score, test shots).
- Enroll competitors and print their stickers.
- After each series, enter scores — scan the target face or type manually.
- Check Results and open the Scoreboard on a TV.
- Optionally add scoreboard messages (announcements, ticker, photos).
Everything stays editable: enrollments, scores, and settings can be changed at any time.
Contests
Go to Contests and click + New Contest. Enter name, date, and optional location, then save.
Open a contest with Manage to add disciplines, enroll shooters, enter scores, view results, print stickers, or edit scoreboard messages.
The live scoreboard follows the active contest — set which contest is active from the scoreboard or contest list.
To delete a contest completely, use Delete Contest (removes all disciplines, enrollments, and scores for that event).
Disciplines
Disciplines in the main menu is your reusable library (e.g. “10 m Air Pistol Men”). When you add a discipline to a contest, pick from the library or create a one-off variant.
Per discipline configure:
- Number of shots per series
- Test shots — lowest scores dropped from the total
- Max score per shot
- Decimal scores (0.1 steps) on or off
Export and import disciplines as CSV from the Disciplines page or Admin.
Competitors
Competitors registers people who may shoot in any contest: name, club, contact, optional ID.
One person record is shared across all contests. Enrolling links them to disciplines for a specific event — no duplicate records are created.
Use the search filter on the list. Bulk update via Admin → Export / Import CSV.
Enrolling competitors
On a contest page, click Enroll.
Step 1 — Find competitor
- Type a last name — matches appear in a dropdown.
- Press Enter or click a suggestion.
- Or click Search for a full list and click the correct row.
- If nobody matches, complete the new-competitor form.
Step 2 — Disciplines
Enter how many series per discipline (0 = skip, 1+ = enroll), then Enroll & Print Sticker.
Each enrollment gets a unique number and QR code for score entry.
Stickers & QR codes
Print stickers after enrollment as PDF from the enrollment list (🏷) or the contest stickers page.
Size and layout: Admin → Sticker Settings. Each sticker shows number, name, club, discipline, and a QR code. Stick it on the scorecard sticker column (left).
DYMO LabelWriter: preset 89 × 28 mm (30252). In the print dialog choose your DYMO, Actual size / 100%, correct label type — not “Fit to page”.
Entering scores
From the contest, open Enter Scores.
Automatic recognition (recommended)
- Allow the camera (HTTPS required).
- Place the scorecard on a plain dark background with scoring rings 10–4 visible (rings 5 and 4 may appear only partly at the edges).
- The app reads the QR sticker to identify the shooter, then recognises holes on the target face.
- Or choose Upload photo, then click Start recognition — scanning does not start until you press Start.
- Review scores on the overlay: drag red circles to move holes, Add hole to place one, right-click to remove.
- Click Save, then Next scorecard for the following shooter.
Scoring rules for ring targets: the centre bull and inner white ring both count as 10. Then 9, 8, 7 on the black face, 6 in the tan ring, and 5 / 4 in the outer rings. The majority rule applies (more than half the bullet inside the ring). Whole numbers only unless the discipline allows decimals.
Manual entry: select competitor and discipline, type each shot, save.
Admins can test recognition without saving in Admin → Scorecard test lab.
Results
Results shows rankings per discipline with medals for 1st–3rd. If a competitor has several series, only the best total counts.
Click any score cell to correct it. Export PDF or use Print.
Per-discipline score lists are also on the contest page via Scores in the discipline table.
Live scoreboard
Open Scoreboard from the menu (new tab). It shows the active contest, rotating through discipline rankings and any message pages — ideal for a TV or projector.
Click the ⚙ icon (top-right) for display settings. Values are saved in the browser and restored next time:
- Time per page — seconds each ranking or message page is shown (default 20)
- Page transition — fade/slide between pages (default 1.2 s)
- Score table scrolling — pause before scroll, pause between loops, scroll speed
- Picture slideshow — seconds per picture, dissolve time between pictures, number of pictures before the next page (defaults: 3 s, 0.8 s, 5 pictures)
- Reset to defaults — restore factory timing
Background colour, club logo watermark, and default appearance: Admin → Scoreboard Settings.
Scoreboard messages
Per contest, open Scoreboard messages to add pages in the live rotation.
Three message types:
- Full page — rich text announcement (break times, sponsors, rules)
- Scrolling ticker — continuous banner under the top bar
- Picture slideshow — full-screen photos with dissolve transitions between images
For slideshows, upload pictures on the message or pick from the server library (Admin → Picture library). Reusable folders can be linked to multiple contests.
Only active messages appear on the scoreboard. Use the order field to sort pages.
Administration
The Admin menu:
- Export / Import — CSV backup of contests, competitors, disciplines
- Backups — database snapshots
- Sticker Settings — label and QR dimensions
- Printer Settings — browser print preferences
- Scoreboard Settings — colours and watermark
- Picture library — folders for scoreboard slideshows
- Translations — edit UI text per language
- HTTPS / Trust — certificate for phones (required for camera)
- Scorecard test lab — test QR + score recognition without saving
- Contact — feedback and bug reports
Tips & troubleshooting
Camera blocked? Use HTTPS and trust the certificate on each device (Admin → HTTPS / Trust).
QR or scores wrong? Better light, plain background, full target face in frame. Adjust holes on the overlay or enter manually.
Sticker too small? DYMO 89 × 28 mm at 100% scale.
Scoreboard too fast/slow? Open ⚙ on the scoreboard and adjust timing; click Apply & Save.
Wrong language? Click a flag top-right. This manual is available in all five languages.
